About The Artwork

Emory Douglas - Minister of Culture

The Black Panther Party’s Oakland chapter’s 55th anniversary is coming up, and they have asked me to do a few paintings that represent some of the principles of the party. I decided to paint around this years core message, Educate To Liberate.
Since I don’t do a lot of collage work, I thought it would be cool to collage some of the historical photos of some Panthers educating the youth. Having the Panther flag flying in the background was a must, and plenty of rhythmic movement and bold texture. Front and center we have the original Minister of Culture Emory Douglas, he was, and still is the original artist of 90% of all the artwork that the panther party put out. The exhibition of this artwork has been outstanding and I’ve had some great conversations surrounding it. I hope you too enjoy this carefully crafted artwork and the richness of the history it brings.
