Hello, I'M Vincent Keele

As a second-generation, multidisciplinary artist, I am passionate about creating art that resonates on a deeper level. I live and work in Washington State, but my artistic journey began in Los Angeles, California, where I was born. My early passion for art was ignited by a comprehensive set of art books passed down to me by my mother, Mary M. Scott, an alumna of the Art Institute of Chicago. These materials allowed me to appreciate and create art in a wide variety of styles and methods. Though self-taught, my work is rooted in meticulous compositional planning, combined with a deep appreciation for art history.

I immerse myself in the process of bringing vibrant, bold, and rhythmic abstract and figurative works to life. I have always been drawn to art, but it wasn't until I started experimenting with different mediums and styles that I truly discovered my passion. A defining moment came when I created a piece that resonated deeply with me, filling me with a profound sense of accomplishment. Today, my art is recognized internationally and graces homes, businesses, public spaces, and collections worldwide. My art is more than just paint on canvas—it's a conversation.

" I am building my pictorial legacy." -Vincent Keele

I explore the interplay of movement, energy, and luminous light. I am building my pictorial legacy and strive to capture forgotten stories, evoking a sense of remarkable abstract movement and breathing life back into special people and places that have been lost to time, overwritten, or simply forgotten. This act of remembering is vital; it's how we keep our history alive and ignite curiosity in others.

I believe art serves as a powerful connector, bringing people together and sparking conversations. It ignites curiosity, imagination, and a sense of shared experience. Through my art, I explore the complexities of the world, processing my thoughts, emotions, and experiences. By expressing myself creatively, I gain a deeper understanding of my own perspective and connect with others on a more profound level.

My paintings are not merely about visual beauty; they are about fostering meaningful dialogues. I employ bold, colorful, and flowing lines, a technique I call "Rhythm Writing," blending expressionism and abstraction to invite viewers on a journey of discovery with each piece. The colors I choose often connect with the chakras, adding another layer of depth and intention to my work. My narratives seek to remind and educate, offering a respite from the stresses of daily life through vibrant and meaningful imagery.

"I Create My World and Then Live In It" -Vincent Keele

My artistic process is driven by cognitive thinking. I want my art to awaken thought, channel creative energy, and push the boundaries of universal understanding. The conversations that arise from my work provide non-invasive avenues for exploring various aspects of the subject matter, promoting social consciousness and awareness. Ultimately, my goal is to touch viewers' souls, sparking connections through thoughts, emotions, and expressions. Art, for me, has always been more than a passion—it's a way of life, a way to remember, and to inspire.

My Artistic Process

  • 01.

    STEP ONE

"Rhythm Writing" is the foundation of my artistic process. I begin a new artwork by visualizing it in my mind, and painting the orange edges on the canvas. My first step is to consider how my "Rhythm Writing" will be integrated into the painting and how it will complement a baroque composition and the desired impact of the color palette. After this mental preparation, The canvas is given a few coats of white gesso and I create four or five stick figure thumbnails to test the composition and impact. These thumbnails are typically done on any scrap paper in arm reach and are drawn in colored pencils, though sometimes I do it digitally. Once I have a good drawing, I scale it up to fit the canvas and the drawing is sealed. This process is repeated over three or four canvases

    STEP TWO

Subsequent to scaling the drawing, I execute a detailed "dead color" rendering. This drawing is then sealed, and a warm-toned wash is applied across the entire canvas. Highlights are carefully rubbed out before the underpainting dries. Impasto is introduced at this juncture, directly prior to the application of mid-tone colors throughout the artwork. The iterative process of layering impasto, scumbles, glazes, and thick paint applications persists until the painting achieves a semi-finished state. the painting is reviewed for any visual errors and then sealed again once more.

  • 03.

    STEP THREE

"Rhythm Writing," details, and refinements are added to the artwork followed by the darkest darks, highlights, and bright whites. I meticulously review the painting for any visual errors, adjusting the tonal or drawing quality as needed. I seal the painting again, followed by the addition of my darkest darks, highlights, and bright whites to finalize the painting. Three coats of varnish are then applied. I sign the painting on both the back and the front, and the piece is complete
